Choir Unlimited is a fully online publisher of digital copies of choral music. Our mission is to provide engaging, fun, and pedagogically sound music for choirs of all ages and ability levels.
What makes Choir Unlimited different from other publishers?
At Choir Unlimited, we only work with creators who are skilled performers and educators. Our arrangers and composers have years of experience testing their pieces with real-life musicians of all ages and ability levels. Our professional performers and educators don't always have the time and resources to self-promote, so they've partnered with us to bring their music to you.
How does a blanket license work?
One benefit that we offer at Choir Unlimited is the ability to purchase blanket licenses of our scores. We offer two types of blanket licenses: Individual and Institutional.
An Individual License applies to any score(s) purchased by an individual; you get unlimited copy, performance, and recordings rights FOR LIFE. Meaning, if you should ever leave a position the Individual License follows you. You are free to copy and perform that piece at a new position if you so choose. Any copies made and left at your previous position simply become part of the library, and no further copies can be made.
Institutional Licenses are designed for school districts, universities, church organizations, or music programs, allowing the institution to purchase a blanket license, at a slightly larger price, and have that piece remain in their library with unlimited copy, performance, and recordings rights for life - regardless of the director. This allows us to work with and provide music to institutions that use purchase orders, checks, or other forms of payment beyond the control of an individual director. We negotiate Institutional Licenses based on the needs and budget of that institution.
For questions on, or to purchase, an Institutional License please contact us at ChoirUnlimited@gmail.com.
What are the benefits, as a composer, of publishing with Choir Unlimited?
At Choir Unlimited, we deal not only with full time composers, but with music educators and professionals who are too busy to self-promote. We provide an outlet to publish their works, connect them with other musicians, and get their music out to the public.
Many of our composers currently write music for their own ensembles - we offer the opportunity for inspiring choral composers and arrangers to get published and paid for the work they are already doing for their ensembles. We work with school districts, church institutions, and universities to get composers paid for their personal arrangements.
If you are looking to get published, head to the Submissions page for more information!
Are there any costs to a composer publishing with Choir Unlimited?
No. We do not charge our composers to publish their works. We also do not have a limit to the number of works a composer can list. Our main goal is to promote our composers and we at Choir Unlimited don't believe in charging fees for composers to publish their music.
Does Choir Unlimited pay their composers royalties?
Yes. In addition to not charging for composers to list their works, we offer a composer royalty of 50% on any and all of their works sold. We want composers to profit from their music. Since we publish digital copies of our music, there is no cost associated with storing, shipping, or printing.
How much does a typical score cost?
We offer two types of blanket licenses: Individual and Institutional.
For Individual Licenses there is no minimum order amount and a score will cost you $50. When you purchase a score, you then have UNLIMITED copy, performance, and recording rights of that score FOR LIFE. Meaning, if you should ever leave a position the Individual License follows you.
We negotiate Institutional Licenses based on the needs and budget of that institution. For questions on, or to purchase, an Institutional License please contact us at ChoirUnlimited@gmail.com.
We know that copyright is of large concern in our field. We sell blanket licenses in order to eliminate illegal photocopying. We want our music performed and we encourage our customers to be honest and support the composers who share their music with us.
What are the benefits of becoming a member of the Choir Unlimited community?
Another unique feature we offer our customers is the ability to become a member of the Choir Unlimited community. As a member you will pay a monthly subscription price and then gain access to the FULL library of arrangements and compositions with unlimited copying/performing rights. You also receive discounted rates for commissions, customizations, and clinics with our composers.
What should I do if can't find music that will fit my ensemble?
We offer custom commissions of choral works! If you can't find something in our catalog for your ensemble send us an e-mail at ChoirUnlimited@gmail.com and we can connect you with a composer who will create a work custom tailored for your ensemble.
You get to pick any public domain tune/text, then choose the voicing, difficulty, length, style, and all other aspects of the composition. We then put you in contact with a composer to work with for the entire process. When you commission a work you get access to the composer for workshops via Skype to help in the rehearsal process, rewriting, and even talk with your choir about the work.
If you have never commissioned a new choral work, it can be a great way to get the perfect piece for your program as well as provide a one-of-a-kind experience for your choir.
Rates for commissions are negotiated by the needs of the director and composer.
